Do you care enough to spend some time, a small amount of money to be emotionally ready, mentally knowledgeable, physically skilled to care for your animals during an emergy?
A Vet said to me once: "
there are so many pets I could have saved, if only their owners could have bought me some time by doing some first aid!

15 years ago, I taught CPR/FA aid class to some Veterinary physicians and assistants.  We came up with the idea to do a modified version of this class to offer to their clients.

He sent out the invitation to a 1,000 name mailing list for 4 sessions over 2 weeks.  In one week we had 300 names. We taught in modules, rotating the people through.  Mine was the Animal CPR.

I cannot tell you how many people came up to me and said , "Gee, my husband has a heart condition, wonder if I should how do CPR for him as well?" (absolutely not kidding)

It would have been funny if there weren’t so many, or even that

my own Mother might have asked that question.

The American Red Cross does not allow animals into their shelters.

Without crates, food, or planning and their special medications, your animals will be helpless

when help can’t wait, ~and may not even be there at all.

Making a First Aid Kit for Your Dog

Holly Frisby, DVM, MS

Veterinary Services Department, Drs. Foster & Smith, Inc.

Since you never know when an accident will happen, keeping a pet emergency kit at your home is a good idea. A smaller kit could be used in the car. You can put a first aid kit together yourself and buy the items separately, or buy one ready-made. If you make one yourself, use a small plastic tub with a tight fitting lid to store the following items:

Information for Pet Owners

If you evacuate your home, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PETS BEHIND! Pets most likely cannot survive on their own; and if by some remote chance they do, you may not be able to find them when you return!
